Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you guys.
I’m sure this isn’t news to you, it’s one of the healthy living mantras that we hear over and over and over. Eat breakfast. Cut carbs. Meditate. Repeat.
Despite this, do you know what I had for breakfast today? Coffee and Tic Tacs. Breakfast of champions.
It’s not that I’m opposed to eating a well-rounded meal at 7 a.m., it’s just that it is an impossible hour of the day. The kids are up and demanding to be fed – the gall, right? – and there are lunches to be packed and permission slips to be filled out and dishes to be washed. Oh, and a job to get to. It’s utter chaos, even on the best day. So breakfast is sometimes the leftover syrup from my kids’ plate of Eggo waffles, or the cold egg whites my oldest refuses to eat, or the crust off my youngest’s peanut butter toast.
Or coffee and Tic Tacs.
The good news, though, is that we are not alone.
Actor Patton Oswalt took to Twitter this week to share his morning meal:
Just had my usual breakfast — the mini-pancakes & cantaloupe slices my daughter didn't eat as I rush out the door to get her to school.

Judging from the hilarious but all too real responses his Tweet received, many parents knew just where he was coming from.
.@pattonoswalt I had half of a slightly gnawed on waffle and some left over strawberries…eaten while standing as I cleared the plates. 😉

@pattonoswalt I had leftover half slice of banana bread that my son didn't eat & some yogurt I licked off my fingers after cleaning him up.

@pattonoswalt I had a lovely breakfast of yelling to brush his teeth and get his shoes on. Low carb.

@pattonoswalt I usually end up with the 4 corners of a pop-tart. Seasoned with bitter tears … of my own making.

@pattonoswalt I ate my 4-year old's cold oatmeal from a purple plastic bowl in the car after leaving her wailing at preschool. #Monday's

@pattonoswalt I finished my daughter's bagel, and bit into the front tooth that she thought she had swallowed. HAPPY MONDAY!!!!!

Strength in numbers, my friends. The next time you’re gnawing the hardened edges off of a cold Pop Tart just remember that you are not alone.
