Does this PSA scare you into making healthier choices?

I consider myself a health conscious parent. We avoid giving our kids fast food. But every now and then I don’t mind them having a sweet treat. However watching this PSA makes grateful that we implement restrictions, when it comes to food.

The PSA entitled “Rewind the Future” was created by Your Nutrition Spot, a nutrition and fitness website. It begins with a 32-year-old man weighing 300 hundred pounds having a heart attack at the hospital. After learning about the patient’s condition, one of the doctors asks, “How the hell does that happen?”

The ad flashes back to the obese man’s childhood during the attack. We see him drinking soda and eating unhealthy snacks while struggling to breath. The ad then shows him at a drive thru ordering fast food followed by doctors warning him and his mom about the effects of unhealthy eating.

We then see the man’s mom feeding him french fries as a baby,
“I still can’t believe you give this child french fries,” a women says.
“I know. It’s the only thing that will make him stop,” his mom replies.

How many times have we done this as parents? Our kids fuss, and we give them something to keep them quiet. But after seeing this PSA, you may want to reconsider feeding kids junk.

Here are 3 ways we avoid overindulgence and maintain a healthy lifestyle

Limit sweet treats
There’s nothing wrong with candy, as long as it’s in moderation. Banning it completely could make them want it even more. Our kids love chocolate, so we sometimes treat them to a piece of dark chocolate, which is rich in antioxidants. Plus, it’s a healthier option to milk chocolate and other candies.

Pack healthy snacks
Why not kill two birds with one stone and bring along healthy treats like fruits and veggies? We’re always on the road, so you can imagine the kids are always hungry. Instead of unhealthy potato chips or stopping at a fast food joint, we pack our own lunches including sandwiches, grapes, carrot sticks and other healthy options. Not only are they eating healthy, we are saving money too.

Follow an active lifestyle
One of the most disturbing parts of the PSA is seeing how this young man refuses to exercise. Kids have a lot of energy to burn. Getting them involved in extracurricular activities keeps them moving. It also helps with discipline and focus. It’s also important to living a long healthy life.
