Photo: Mom multitasks with kids at work, wins the Internet

For all the working parents who’ve ever been in a pinch when childcare arrangements went haywire, this one’s for you.

Dr. Megan Meier, a sports/dance medicine physician in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, recently posted a photo of herself on the job. She was providing sideline coverage for a high school football team on Sept. 2 when the snapshot was taken — and you might notice a couple of noteworthy tagalongs!

Meier originally posted the photo in a physician mom group with this caption: “Sports Medicine Doctor Mom–this is what happens when you are 35 weeks pregnant, husband leaves town for the weekend, childcare for 3yo falls through, and you have a game to cover!”

It’s worth noting Meier didn’t actually plan to have her 3-year-old in tow. But the babysitter canceled last-minute and her husband was out of town for the weekend. Life happens. Instead of bailing on work — which, at 35 weeks pregnant with no childcare for her preschooler, would have been totally legit — this doctor-mom did what she had to do to get the job done.

“I really believe that you can have it all and find a great balance to a multi-faceted career and life,” she wrote on her public Facebook page. “However, it takes a lot of hard work and improvisation at times.”

When I worked outside of the home, I too experienced a few impromptu take-my-kids-to-work days because of babysitter issues. So I loaded up my two kids — a preschooler and a baby at the time — and headed to the office with plenty of snacks and distractions. I was so grateful my workplace was flexible and cool with my work buddies tagging along. Truth be told, I wasn’t the most productive worker on those days. But I got the job done, man.

Kudos to this rock star mom for being an awesome caregiver to all.
