Just in time for Father’s Day, the New York Post brings us the story of a Brooklyn man with super sperm.
Over the past 12 years, math professor Ari Nagel has sired more than 22 kids with 18 women. And he usually does it in public bathrooms.
Yes, Nagel – who says he has an incredibly high sperm count, 85 million per milliliter – is like a masturbating Robin Hood, doling out semen to those who have none. He supplies this service for free, mostly for single women and lesbian couples, offering the necessary tadpoles without the prohibitive cost of sperm banks.
Whenever his services are required, Nagel typically meets the recipient at a Starbucks, Target, or some other public space, watches some porn on his iPhone, and ejaculates into a menstrual cup. Afterward, he hands the sperm-filled cup to the woman, who inserts it into her own body.
Of course there are definite legal and medical issues here, and probably some hygiene issues as well, because just about everything involving babies brings up complex issues. (For instance, the first five women Nagel worked with sued him for child support and won, even though Nagel says they promised to not sue.)
But I’ve also been in the position of desiring a pregnancy, almost to the point of obsession, so I understand what’s driving the do-it-yourself fertility movement. Nagel’s efforts make sperm accessible to all.
On the other hand, there are parts of the story that seem … off. Like the unusual threesomes he’s had with lesbian couples:
Nagel regularly visits some of his children, although there are some he’s never met. He maintains that he’s under no obligation to co-parent or spend time with his children.
Still, Nagel’s name appears on about half of the birth certificates, and he’s been present for a handful of deliveries.
“It’s the gift that keeps on giving,” Nagel says in the New York Post.
And now we know why it takes some people an hour to use the restroom at Starbucks.
