Stretch marks + mom diapers: 9 reasons we love Chrissy Teigen

Since welcoming her baby girl Luna Simone in May, model Chrissy Teigen has quickly risen to join the ranks of our very favorite famous moms.

Why?

Well, because when she’s not gushing over her absolutely adorable daughter, Chrissy has been very publicly breaking down some of the still-taboo topics of motherhood. From stretch marks to those gigantic post-baby pads, it seems nothing is off-limits to the new mom.

She’s also not shy about calling out those who seem all too eager to criticize her parenting skills from the behind the anonymity of their keyboards.

Here are nine reasons we’ve come to love Chrissy Teigen:

Reason #1: The time she admitted that childbirth is definitely not glamorous - even if you're a supermodel. "No one told me I would be coming home in diapers too," she Tweeted after Luna's birth, later posting a photo of "perineal irrigation bottle" (aka the post-baby squirt bottle we all love to hate) with the caption, "Buying myself a push present."

Reason #2: The time she posted a photo of herself breastfeeding baby Luna during a photo shoot like it was no big deal. Like it was a totally, completely normal thing to do. Because it is.

Reason #3: The time she shared a shot of her stretch marks on Snapchat, writing, "“LOL my stretch marks have tributaries." She also opened up about her post-baby "bounce-back," saying, "But it's all smoke and mirrors, too. People on Instagram forget that you're showing them what you want them to see. We have filters. You're able to shoot yourself at these angles where you're proud of the photo. I would hate for anybody to think that I didn't get a stretch mark, or that I don't still have a dark line on my belly. It's there for sure. I feel bad that anyone else would feel bad about themselves."

Reason #4: The time she asked the question that has plagued every new parent: "My biggest parenting conundrum: why it is so hard to put someone who is already sleepy to sleep?" Why indeed.

Reason #5: The time she stood up for Kristin Cavallari when the famous mom-of-three's parenting skills were harshly criticized: “I will never know why parents criticize others so harshly, knowing they'd go insane if they were on the receiving end ALLTHETIME. NO parent out there thinks they're perfect. I loathe these s--thead commenters. Who would want to make someone feel horrible for fun? Anyway, love you @KristinCav and screw everyone's bored ass!”

Reason #6: The time she went on Splash Mountain at Disneyland and pulled a total mom move. "MY MILK!" she captured the hilarious pic, captured by the ride's camera, that showed her clutching both breasts. See the amazing photo here.

Reason #7: The time she jokingly revealed that it can take a very long time for things to return to "normal" after giving birth, Tweeting, "I feel like tiny underpaid workers are putting my uterus back together and they're super bitter about it so they aren't doing a good job."

Reason #8: The time she shrugged off all of the critics who gave her flak for going on a date night with her husband John Legend when Luna was 10 days old. "I went to dinner. People are pissed. Good morning!" she Tweeted the next day.

Reason #9: Every time she celebrated her gorgeous pregnancy and post-baby curves. "Thank u @monicarosestyle for teaching me to love and embrace these new inches," she wrote of this figure-hugging dress she wore in June.

Refreshing, isn’t it?

As Chrissy rightly points out, so much of what we see out of Hollywood is “smoke and mirrors.” Parenting is always easy and natural, mothers are always “over-the-moon,” abs are always quick to resurface. That’s how it often seems, but of course that’s not the whole story. Babies don’t tend to care too much about red carpets and couture clothing; they’re just as happy to spit up on a Tom Ford dress as they are an Old Navy one. The scenes we see on social media are tiny, filtered fractions of a much bigger, much messier reality.

That’s why I always enjoy Chrissy’s very honest take on motherhood. Her life is no doubt very different than mine, but there are some common threads that weave all of us moms together.

To be fair, Luna’s dad John Legend also deserves a shout-out for this fantastic Tweet, which he wrote in response to his wife’s online critics:

Love it.

Here are some sweet moments in the lives of famous mamas that just may look familiar to all of us:
