It looks like Denmark’s sex ads could spark a baby boom this year. Some companies have decided to take action as a result of falling birth rates and an aging population within the country.

According to the fertility awareness organization Dansk Fertilitetsselskab, 20 percent of Danish men never become fathers while 12 percent of Danish woman either never have children or don’t have as many as they’d like.

Spies Travel is the company behind the national TV campaign called “Do it for mom.” The commercial suggests that having babies will make parents happy, and put an end to the country’s declining birth rate.

The commercial begins with a young lady smiling followed by images of an older woman reminiscing about her children and grandkids. We also see a mom following behind her child, as the voice over track explains the need to fix the nation’s problem.

“The Danish welfare system is under pressure. There are still not enough babies being born, despite a little progress. And this concerns us all. But those who suffer the most are perhaps the mothers who will never experience having a grandchild,” the announcer says.

The ad takes somewhat of a comical spin with an older woman helping a young couple navigate their way in between the sheets.

“But when it comes to making grandchildren, it may be a bit awkward to help out,” the announcer adds. He then goes on to explain what happens to the body during sex.

“Exercising with your partner increases the sex drive even further because the brain releases endorphins. You sweat, your heart beats faster and you lose your breath. Symptoms we know from being in love and feeling aroused. The power of attraction increases, and the workout also boosts the blood supply to the sexual organs. All things that increase the sex drive and thus chances of conception,” he says.

According to reports, sex ads like this one may actually cause a baby boom in Denmark. In fact, Politiken suggests that there will be about 1,200 more Danish babies this summer than last year.

However, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the increase. For starters, there have been other attempts at boosting fertility including, making changes to sex education in public schools and also calling on parents to have more intercourse to save public institutions.

The national fertility rate has jumped since 2010 with 1.69 in 2014, which is a little higher than 2013. It’s also important to note that the average age of first-time parents in Denmark was 29.1 in 2010, a five year increase from 1970. About 10 percent of children born in Denmark are conceived only after fertility treatment.

It’s clear that there’s been an increase in birth rates over the years based on the statistics. Since these sex ads began in September 2015, it’s probably safe to say that there are a number of causes for the rising birth rates. However, these ads seem pretty convincing. It’ll be interesting to see if the prediction of a baby boom in Denmark this summer rings true.

What do you think about Denmark’s sex ads? Will it boost birth rates?
