Pacific Cycle has announced a voluntary recall of its infant bike helmets with magnetic no-pinch buckle chin straps because of a potential choking hazard.
This recall affects roughly 129,000 helmets, according to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC.) The magnetic buckle on the helmet’s chin strap contains small, plastic covers and magnet that can potentially come loose — posing a risk of choking and magnet ingestion for young kids.
Affected helmets were sold for $18-$25 exclusively at Target stores and at Target.com between January 2014 and April 2016.
Product description: Only infant bicycle helmets with magnetic no-pinch chin strap buckles are included in the recall. The helmets are made for infants ranging from 1 to 3 years old. The helmet and straps come in a variety of colors and design patterns. The buckles have small plastic covers and enclosed magnets. “SCHWINN” is printed on the front of the helmets.
Three reports of the plastic cover coming lose have been received so far, although no injuries have yet been reported. Consumers are advised to immediately take the helmets away from children and then contact Pacific Cycle for instructions on how to receive a free replacement helmet.
Pacific Cycle can be reached by calling 877-564-2261 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CST) Monday through Friday, by emailing customerservice@pacific-cycle.com or online. For more details about this recall, click here.
