A 7-year-old boy named Parker just had the most epic birthday party of all time — inside his local Target store!
Did I mention it was completely Target-themed and that staff members were totally in on it, too. Here’s the backstory: Kara Cook and her son, Parker, are pretty much in love with Target, according to BuzzFeed. So much, in fact, this mama has to make sure to keep store trips sans Parker a secret and to hide the bags so he doesn’t get upset.
Being the best mom ever, she thought why not have her son’s birthday party at his favorite place in the world? There was just one tiny problem: Target doesn’t actually throw birthday parties. Cook spoke with a manager about her idea, and she was given the green light as long as they weren’t a disruption.
Here are the details that hit the party theme right on Target (See what I did there?):
• Guests were asked to come wearing red shirts and khaki shorts, of course.
• Kids ate popcorn while decorating employee name badges.
• The birthday boy had his face painted like Bullseye.
• There was a scavenger hunt for stuffed Bullseyes! Adults took groups of kids around the store and used five clues to find the hiding pups. After each team completed its scavenger hunt, kids were rewarded with Target stickers and Icees.
• Kids picked out party favors from the Dollar Spot. Target staff members were even nice enough to reserve a register just for the guests to check out.
• Parker had a rad Target-themed birthday cake.
Pure. Genius. (Click here to see even more amazing photos from this Target birthday party.)
There’s just something about Target, isn’t there? Is it the moderately-priced, awesome merchandise? The fact that many stores happen to have a Starbucks inside? The Dollar Spot? Popcorn and Icees? I can’t quite put my finger on it. All I know is my bank account would take a serious hit if there were one of these magical stores closer to me.
And now I’m kinda-sorta fantasizing about my own Target birthday party. Thanks, Parker’s mom.
